Every year someone writes a think piece about the death of physical books. Every year the internet replies with a photo of a crowded bookshelf. The argument is tired. Meanwhile, a quiet majority is just reading on their phones, tablets, or that ancient Kindle from 2015.

The real shift? No one cares anymore. The vibe is “your format is fine.” The heat has moved to the actual content — fanfiction, self-published weirdness, Substack essays that read like novels. The container is irrelevant.

We’ve entered the post-format era. Read on stone tablets if you want. Just don’t tell me about your reading ritual. The only bad take is the one that gatekeeps how words get from page to brain.
